YouthCare is a Seattle-based organization that helps homeless teens get off the streets and prepared for life. In the Winter of 2013, YouthCare's Orion Center was about to close their doors. That was until Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and Pearl Jam had a competition-style fundraiser to both raise awareness about YouthCare, but also to help keep the Orion Center open. At the end, they donated $209,307.76 to YouthCare.
We, Nadja Li and Jordano Mark, then two MIHS Freshman, heard about their competition and knew that we wanted to help. In January of 2014, we founded Teens Helping Teens, our campaign for YouthCare, and raised over $13,000 worth of donations.
We are passionate about helping others, especially those in our community. Visit our "donate" page to find out how you can help.
My friend and I founded this organization last year to collect clothing for homeless teens in Seattle. Here is a blurb about our donation drive:
If you live in the Seattle area, please consider donating to YouthCare. If you don't live in the area, I encourage you to seek other local charities like YouthCare and support your community. Helping the world is a great thing, and helping your community makes it personal. You can check out our website as well as YouthCare's website and like us on Facebook.
If you haven't seen Emma Watson's inspiring speech on feminism yet, you are missing out.
"Feminism, by definition, is the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities."
Unlike other campaigns for women's rights, He for She is an organization that fights for gender equality through the support from the men of the world. I quote the website when it says, "the movement for gender equality was originally conceived as a struggle led only by women for women. In recent years men have begun to stand-up in addressing the inequalities and discrimination faced by women and girls." Gender equality is not a one-sided battle. Only together can all be truly equal. All men out there, take the He for She commitment. And for all women out there, tell all of your guy-friends to help. Because the more you know, the more you can do.
He for She
ONE is a campaigning and advocacy organization of 3.5 million people taking action to end extreme poverty and preventable disease, particularly in Africa. Be sure to sign off on petitions, donate, and raise awareness of this amazing organization. ONE founded the infamous (RED), so if you support (RED), support ONE!
Visit their website to learn more and shop at their store to support.
You have all hear of (RED). Many huge brands, including Apple, Coca Cola, Bank of America, Beats, Starbucks and more have supported the organization. During a Superbowl, 2014, an advertisement featuring U2 playing their new song, Invisible, played. For 24 hours after, the song was free for everyone, and with each download, Bank of America donated 1$ to (RED). By the end of the day, 3 million dollars were raised. So, you have all heard of (RED), if not just now by me, but what is it? (RED) was founded in 2006 by Bono and Bobby Shriver to get businesses and people involved in the fight against AIDS. The organization was created to help provide a sustainable flow of money from the private sector to fight AIDS. They’ve raised over $240 million to date through the sale of (RED) products from iconic companies - like Apple and Starbucks – and from (RED) events. And 100% of that money goes to work in Africa. (RED) products are darling--my iPod is (RED)--and they are for an outstanding cause. Next time you see a (RED) product you love, snap it up! Visit (RED) here.
